Concrete Countertops:

Countertops are an essential element to a functional kitchen, and by using a concrete surface, installed by professionals, you'll find the kitchen your favorite room in the house. They are also great in barthrooms!

Why use concrete?
MudCrafters offers the best material for the job, and concrete offers a better top than nearly all others when comparing the function of a countertop, sanitation issues, durability and cost.

How does concrete measure up?
Tile
  • continuous surface - no grout lines
  • easier to clean
  • harder
Wood
  • more sanitary
  • easier to clean

Stone (granite,
marble, slate)

  • costs less

Installing top quality concrete countertop surfaces to your home will add a unique alternative to conventional tops. Also, using our method, the concrete countertop is casted in place, and is therefore totally customized to fit your kitchen/bathroom. This also allows us to create many shapes, curves, long lengths, in addition to varied thicknesses.

How is a concrete countertop installed?

  1. Forming - with similar techniques and methods used in foundational concrete forming.
  2. Pouring - hand mixed, and can have dyes added at this time if desired.
  3. Troweling - the concrete is worked, until the desired topical finished is reached, and then left to set up (curing). This is also when the edges are detailed.
  4. Forming is stripped.
  5. Curing - the standard for concrete is 28 days, but since it is a countetop, thus used differently, the standard does not completely apply in this case. The surface must be left covered during this phase in order to retain moisture for maximum durability.
  6. Sealing - usually with our recommended natural oils like Hard Oils and Herb Oils from BioSheild Paint Co. The top can also be sealed with conventional products like food grade Epoxy, or other acrylic sealers.

Notes on timing:

  • It can take up to three days to complete the forming, pouring and troweling.
  • Technically, cure up to 28 days. We seal our tops 2 weeks after the pour date when a sufficient amount of moisture has left the concrete. During that time prior to sealing, the top is most susceptible to staining, shadowing from objects being spilled or set on top of it.
