Adobe Brick House:
What is an Adobe brick?
Adobe bricks are compacted adobe dirt, shaped usually as a rectangle, 12-14 inches long and 4 inches thick. Good adobe mud has a proper balance between sand and clay so that the properties of both make a durable hard brick once it’s dried by the sun.
History of Adobe Brick Building:
Using adobe bricks for building structures has been used for nearly 8500 years, and was common in the warmer Americas as well as in Middle Eastern countries.
This ancient technique holds well, since some buildings over 800 years old are still standing, and are being used today.
Why we use Adobe Bricks:
Adobe bricks have excellent thermal storage properties, as well as being an structurally intregrous wall system. MudCrafters uses the opportunity to connect with the elements while making these bricks, as it is a hands-on, messy process. Participating in methodically moving and stacking the bricks is a great team activity, as well as a chance to get dirty - which is a valued byproduct for any mud lover.
